Galaxy Launches Blended DeFi Borrowing Rate

State of play: Galaxy Digital's new GOFR product lets institutions borrow against a single blended rate sourced from Aave, Morpho, Spark, and Kamino while Galaxy absorbs all onchain operational complexity as sole counterparty.

GOFR blends variable rates across multiple DeFi lending protocols into one continuously rebalanced "optimized rate" for borrowers.
Minimum loan size is $1M, with users able to post native bitcoin as collateral while Galaxy handles wrapping.
Galaxy is committing up to $100M of its own capital as first-loss protection, with circuit breakers to pause deployments if thresholds are breached.
The company will publish 7-day and 30-day GOFR averages publicly as a reference rate for onchain financing.
Galaxy posted a $216M net loss in Q1 2026, driven by declining crypto prices weighing on its balance sheet.

Why it matters: Delivery pricing has commoditized elsewhere in DeFi, so Galaxy is betting the next moat is rate aggregation and counterparty trust, not the underlying protocols.

Our take: The "DeFi yields without DeFi risk" pitch is really a bid to become the LIBOR of onchain credit. Publishing GOFR as a public benchmark matters more long-term than the lending book itself.

For builders and investors: Watch whether GOFR gets cited outside Galaxy's own products, that's the signal it's becoming a real benchmark rather than a marketing rate.

Robinhood Chain pulled $3.1B in DEX volume within its first week live, landing among the top five chains by activity even as early trading was dominated by speculative meme coin flow.

The Arbitrum-based L2 now hosts 65,000 users holding $300M in stablecoins and $13M in tokenized stocks across more than 90 companies.
Robinhood's stock tokens trade in 120+ countries but remain unavailable in the US, with DeFi TVL crossing $100M within 15 days.
Bernstein ranked the chain third by daily DEX volume at $809M, trailing only Solana and BNB Chain.
Ondo Finance launched a competing US-compliant tokenized securities model the same week, using a registered transfer agent instead of Robinhood's custodial sponsor structure.
Tokenized RWAs grew to $51B market cap in 2026, up 50% even as the broader crypto market fell about 25% year to date.

State of play: Hyperliquid's permissionless HIP-3 markets jumped from 2% to nearly 50% of total perp volume this year, driven largely by demand for round-the-clock trading on stablecoin-settled stock contracts.

TradeXYZ dominates the category, running markets like XYZ100 tracking the Nasdaq-100 alongside single-stock contracts on Nvidia and Tesla.
Perpetuals avoid the time decay that erodes options positions, offering retail traders simpler long or short exposure without strike-and-expiry math.
Underlying stocks only trade during market hours, so HIP-3 prices outside that window rely entirely on oracle and funding-rate mechanics to stay anchored.
24/7 trading means no circuit breakers during weekend gaps, an unproven setup compared to natively 24/7 assets like crypto.

EthSystems Launches for Private Institutional Ethereum

EthSystems, a new for-profit spinout from the Ethereum Foundation's Institutional Privacy Task Force, is building confidential transaction infrastructure to solve the core reason banks won't operate on a fully public ledger.

The company builds zero-knowledge systems for private stablecoin transfers, confidential bonds, and cross-chain settlement for institutional clients.
Co-founders Oskar Thörnberg, Mo Jalil, and Rymnc bring backgrounds from the Ethereum Foundation, Goldman Sachs, and various crypto projects.
Backers include Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin and Bitmine Immersion Technologies, with a year of open source protocol specs already shipped.
EthSystems is the third Foundation spinout aimed at pushing Ethereum toward trillion-dollar institutional finance.
